Earlier this year, I had the privilege of being invited to speak as a keynote speaker at Drupal Developer Days 2024. It was a great honor, but also a big responsibility, especially since I was the “WordPress guy” at a Drupal conference.
The Talk
I wanted to prepare something different, not so much dev-oriented. After some brainstorming, I landed on the title: “Open Source Platform Alliance: Collaboration Between FOSS CMS.” The focus of the talk was to showcase the current landscape of open-source content management systems (CMS) from my perspective and highlight ways in which platforms like WordPress, Drupal, and other Open Source CMS can collaborate for a stronger future.
I also shared real-world examples of how we, as developers and users of open-source software, can push these platforms forward, making them more robust, stable, and well-positioned in front of clients, partners, and the wider community.
Nonetheless, I’ve shared some “bad” examples and items that we do not do well and places where we lack innovation, marketing, and showcasing the amazing work we all do with these platforms.

The Conference Experience
The entire experience was amazing, and the Drupal community was incredibly welcoming!
On the first day, I spent time getting familiar with the event, attending sessions, and meeting people. In the following days, I focused more on networking, chatting with organizers, speakers, and community members, attending workshops, and soaking in more sessions.
We also had a few fun after-parties, where there was no shortage of great conversations, dancing, and drinks.
A big thank you to everyone involved—the organizers, speakers, volunteers, sponsors, and attendees—for making Drupal Developer Days 2024 such a memorable event!
You can find a few nice recaps of the conference here, here, and here, and of course, you can watch all sessions on their official YouTube channel.
